Wow, best grout and perfect color

First time using spectralock 1 grout and I wasn’t disappointed. The color was very constant and clean up wasn’t as hard as I was thinking. Definitely don’t go too far without cleaning up. Love the fact the grout doesn’t change colors from dry and wet. Perfect for shower floors!!!

Shipping Issues

Unfortunately shipping has posed an issue with this product. I believe it was a previously frozen bucket of grout. The contents was very stiff. It did loosen up with a splash of water and a lot of mixing. Fortunately, Laticrete said it can go through no more that 2 freeze/thaw cycles so I was still able to use it.

I have found the SpectralocK is the best alternative to 3 part epoxy. After watching a few videos from Laticrete, others in the trade who have used it and from personal experience, I have determined this is my go to for grout Not a replacement for steam showers or for shower floors.... otherwise its the best I have found so far. Nothing quality is ever inexpensive. Contractors Direct is the best source which saves me time, money and is convenient. They always update me on order status and delivery.

Works stiffer than normal grout in tight joints and does take twice as long to grout shower. But does clean up good if you don't try to do to much at a time.

Application was easy if...

I have not put this product through the test of time, however it was very easy to use and the color was consistent from one gallon to the next. Works best if you apply no more than 2-4 sq ft at a time and then sponge off the excess. If more, then becomes more difficult. I was applying this to 1" mosaic tile so with larger format tiles I would imagine you can apply to a larger area before sponging.

First time using it. When we started with it it the product was really hard/dry. Struggled through it. Got a second pail in Minneapolis, night and day different. So I don’t know if age was an issue, or what was. I will use the product again. I’ve been using Spectralock for years. It was a big step to take to try a premix.

Best grout available

This has become the only grout I use for all tile jobs. Ive tried most other brands and nothing compares to this. Easy to apply,clean, and true to color. Just need to do very small areas and clean almost immediately. Best advice, get the epoxy sponges from CD and cleaning is very simple.Very difficult to clean without them. And do not attempt large areas without cleaning as you go. Laticrete needs to modify their cleaning instruction for this grout. It really sets fast and regular hydra type sponges do not work. Start with epoxy sponge and follow with a Ardex type, done with zero haze. Much easier and faster than dealing with epoxy Spectralock or the Permacolor select.

How much area does 1 gal provide? Using 12x12 tiles with 1/8" grout. Roughly 60sf total

With 12" × 12" tiles and 1/8" grout joints, one gallon of LATICRETE SpectraLOCK® 1 Pre-Mixed Grout typically covers more than 60 square feet under normal installation conditions. For your project size of roughly 60 sq ft, a single gallon should be sufficient. Actual coverage can vary slightly depending on tile thickness, joint depth, and installation technique, but for standard installs, one gallon is generally more than adequate for that area.

How wide of joint can I fill, also the grout height will be 1" in depth. Will this grout work

Thanks for your question. According to LATICRETE’s product datasheet, SPECTRALOCK 1 Pre‑Mixed Grout is intended for grout joints from 1/16″ to 3/8″ (2 mm‑9 mm) in width.

Since you have a 1″ deep joint (depth) that is fine for the product (the datasheet does not list a maximum depth), but your joint width must stay within the 1/16″‑3/8″ range in order to meet manufacturer recommendations. Using it in a joint wider than 3/8″ could result in performance issues or void manufacturer warranties.

If your grout joint width is wider than 3/8″, you’ll need to select a product rated for wider joints. Let us know if you’d like help finding one.

No, it is not waterproof. You will need to look at the porosity rate of the grout. Laticrete's Pro Premium Grout has a porosity rate of less than 1%, while the Spectralock PreMixed Grout has a porosity rate of less than 3%.

what is the coverage of 1 gallon?

This is dependent on the dimensions of the tile you are using and the joint width desired. Please reference the "Manual" PDF on the page, as it contains a breakdown chart in regards to coverage.

Can you use a refillable caulk gun to apply to tile seams. Is the grout sanded or un-sanded?

The SPECTRALOCK 1 Pre-Mixed Grout is too thick to be put in a caulk gun and is recommended to be spread like normal grout. This is sanded Grout.
