Weed Whackers, String Trimmers, and Trimmer Line

Trimmer line thickness has to match what's actually being cut. Thinner line works fine on standard grass and light growth, moving fast without bogging the trimmer down. Thicker line holds up to tougher weeds and denser growth that would snap a thin line almost immediately. Line shape matters too. Round line runs quieter and lasts longer under normal use, while square or serrated line cuts more aggressively through thicker vegetation at the cost of extra vibration and noise.

Some jobs go past what any trimmer line can handle. Swapping to a metal brush cutter blade turns the same trimmer into a tool that can take down saplings, heavy brush, and woody growth that would just wrap around a string instead of cutting through it.

Power source follows the pattern seen across the rest of the lawn equipment on this site. Gas trimmers run longer and cut through thick growth without losing power, useful for larger properties or heavier brush clearing. Battery trimmers trade some of that endurance for a lighter, quieter tool with no mixed fuel to manage.
