Hedge Trimmers and Pruners, Gas and Battery Powered

A hedge trimmer and a pruner solve different shaping problems. A hedge trimmer runs a set of reciprocating blades across a wide surface, built for shearing a hedge or shrub into a clean, even line. A pruner makes a single, precise cut on one branch at a time, better suited to selective cuts where a trimmer's wide blade would take off more than intended.

Reach is the next factor. A standard handheld trimmer works fine for hedges at a comfortable height. A shafted or pole trimmer extends that same cutting head out on a long shaft, letting the top of a tall hedge get trimmed from the ground instead of from a ladder.

Power source follows the same pattern seen across the rest of this lineup. Gas trimmers run longer between fill-ups and hold up well on thick, overgrown growth. Battery trimmers trade some of that runtime for a lighter tool with no mixed fuel and no exhaust to manage while working close to the plant.

ECHO covers the widest range on this page, spanning handheld trimmers, shafted trimmers, and pruning attachments. Husqvarna adds gas and battery trimmers along with pole and attachment options. Greenworks and Dewalt round out the battery side with handheld, pole, and pruning tools built around their own platforms.
