Concrete Scarifiers and Scabblers for Surface Removal

A scarifier and a scabbler both remove material from a concrete surface, but they work in different ways and reach different depths. A scarifier uses a rotating drum fitted with carbide cutters. The spinning action shaves off a thin layer of concrete. That makes it well suited to stripping coatings, leveling high spots and roughening a floor before a new coating or overlay goes down.

A scabbler works differently. Instead of a rotating drum, it drives multiple pneumatic pistons straight into the surface. That impact action removes material more aggressively than a scarifier can. A scabbler is the right call when a job needs exposed aggregate or a deeper cut than surface prep alone requires.

Bartell and Edco supply most of the scarifiers and cutter kits on this page. Diteq and CS Unitec add drum assemblies and replacement cutters.
