Battery platform matters more than any single tool's specs once more than one cordless tool is in the mix. Dewalt's 20V MAX and 60V MAX FLEXVOLT batteries run across a wide range of tools in that ecosystem, and its POWERSHIFT line adds a separate high-capacity option built for tools that need more runtime than a standard pack provides. Makita's 40V max XGT platform works the same way, sharing batteries across drills, grinders, saws, and impact tools within that lineup. Buying into one platform means every future tool purchase in that line reuses the same batteries and chargers already owned.

Not every tool on this page depends on a shared battery platform. Arbortech's grinder and chain-based cutting attachments serve a narrower, more specialized purpose, mostly wood shaping and carving work rather than general job site use.
