Blanke Permat Tile Underlayment 6.5 sq. ft. Single Sheet

Innovative uncoupling underlayment that offers all the labor saving benefits of the old plastic roll systems. It also adds support to wood substrates thereby reducing deflection and provides greater compression and tensile strength than plastic roll products. This tile underlayment is stable to walk on during installation and does not require additional curing time when installing porcelain with latex modified thinset.

Instructions for Installing Permat

Substrate must be clean, dry, flat and load bearing
Trowel a more liquid than normal mix of thinset mortar onto substrate
Lay the Blanke PERMAT panels in a row so that the mesh overhang on the two sides of a panel cover the seams of the sides of adjacent panels without the overhang
Subsequent rows of panels should be placed so that the seams running perpendicular to the previous row are offset a minimum of 3" from the seams running in the same direction in the previous row
Use the flat side of a trowel or a vinyl roller to press the panel into the thinset ensuring that the fabric on the underside of the panel achieves full contact with the thinset and that there are no air bubbles
Use the flat side of the trowel to key thinset into the voids on top of the underlayment
Set tile using a notched trowel appropriate for the type of tile and traffic. (Read Installation Instructions prior to installing this product)
Movement joints are required in the tile surface per industry standards

Typical Applications

Ideal alternative to backer board underlayment used in interior residential applications over wood substrates where excess deflection may be an issue and in commercial applications on concrete where stress cracks can be a problem
Ideally suited for new home construction where demanding installation schedules cause traffic to cross on the underlayment prior to tile installation

Awesome underlayment

Love the ease of use. Easy to cut with decent scissors. Straight forward installation process. I consider it a must buy when installing stone over wood substrate.

Fast Delivery; Excellent product for tile substrate

Great product. Very easy to use and much stiffer than Schlueter. I used this because small mosaic tile isn't allowed on Schlueter. Pricey but nice and easy to used. Install tile right after laying underlayment without waiting. Delivery was fast. No problems

Great underlayment

These are perfect for adding the strength that the substructure needs. I've found Blanke Permat helpful for installing stone tile without having to add another layer of plywood. Easy to install and I've used this product for years.

Excellent service and reasonably priced items

I needed enough Blanke Permat sheets to complete a medium size bathroom floor. Contractors Direct provided the Blanke Permat sheets at a reasonable price and with reasonable shipping charges. The items arrived within a week. I will definitely use Contractors Direct for my future orders.

Very easy to work with

On previous jobs, I've used cement board, and I've used the rolls of plastic underlayment from another brand, but this is far easier in the sheet form it comes in. Permat was as thin as any other option, but it adds strength to bond everything together like no other product I've seen. It was worth the expense for the small job I had.

What is the IIC rating on this product? My contractor needs 60-65 for an HOA install approval

This Permat is not rated to be a sound proof underlayment and is not recommended to be used in that application.

Can permat be installed over vinyl floors?

Yes the Blanke Permat can be installed over vinyl however please follow all recommended guidelines with the thin set you are using.

Are there issues that I should know about setting the Blanke Permat over or below floor warming cable or mats?

Heating system should be installed first then permat. This does not impede the ability to warm the floors. The testing data showed that it took a few seconds to reach target temperature but it also took less energy to maintain the temperature: a wash! Blanke recommends that you bond tile or stone directly to Permat. The strength of Permat ( increase in Point load, compressive, sheer, and tensile) begins to diminish once you get over 3/8 inch between Permat and tile or stone. If the floor is more than 3/8 out of level Blanke suggests you level first.

Can I use the Permat over an existing concrete floor?

Yes, be sure to use a modified thinset mortar when installing this product. Permat is suitable substrate for going over concrete slabs.

When using Permat by Blanke is there a particular thinset I should use when installing porcelain?

Latex modified thinset is recommended for porcelain tile installation. Using the Blanke Permat does not extend cure times for the mortar under the tile.
