I've installed my Laticrete Hydro Ban Wall niche in my backerboard. It's sealed in place and ready to tile. Can I use the same thin set mortar I am using on the backerboard or should I use a mastic to adhere the tiles to the niche?

Use the same thinset as the rest of the shower. It is best not to use mastic in a shower. With the heat and steam of the shower the mastic never fully sets.

Does the 8"x12" & 8"x6" narrow combo Niche have a shelf that you can use in product?

There is no specific floating shelf available from Laticrete for these niches. It may be easiest to buy two niches and cut them to your preferred arrangement. You can cut these easily with a fresh blade. Just be sure to apply Hydro Ban Liquid Waterproof Membrane to any cuts or punctures to the niche.

Does this have a built in angle so that shower water won't collect in the niche?

Laticrete has confirmed that these niches do not come with presloped shelves. You or the installer will need to manually slope the tile according to ANSI guidelines.

How do I waterproof a large shower floor that's 8 X 12 foot?

You can use many methods to waterproof a shower floor such as Chloraloy rubber membrane one of the newer popular methods is using a roll on waterproofing membrane such as Laticrete Hydroban

Should shower niches be vertical or horizontal?

Horizontal shower niches are wider than they are tall, generally better for larger showers. Vertical shower niches are taller than they are wide and are a great fit for smaller showers. Vertical also works well for large showers. You can just extend the niche up the wall further and add some shelving for functionality.
