Schluter's Kerdi and Ditra systems are probably the most requested name in the store, and for good reason, their foam shower pans and sheet membrane pair up into a system that's fast to install and hard to get wrong. Laticrete's Hydro Ban kits do the same job with a liquid membrane instead, rolled or brushed on rather than bonded as a sheet. Noble has been in this business over fifty years with their Chloraloy pan liners, and USG Durock and Ardex round out the backer board and waterproofing side for anyone building a more traditional mud bed shower.

The debate that comes up more than any other in this category is sheet versus liquid waterproofing. Sheet systems like Kerdi bond a membrane directly to the substrate, which a lot of installers like because you can see exactly what you're covering as you go. Liquid systems like Hydro Ban go on faster over odd shapes and corners where cutting sheet membrane gets fussy, but they need the right coat thickness and cure time to actually perform. Plenty of pros pick based on the shower itself, sheet for a standard rectangular stall, liquid for anything with a lot of angles or a curbless entry.
