Questions & Answers (11)
Does the estimate of 50 Sq Ft include more than one coat?
The one gallon should give you 2 coats easily but this also depends on how thick it is applied. On Most applications users have a little left over.
How long will Hydroban keep once opened?
Once unsealed, use within 3-4 months exposure to air will begin to dry it out.
I have a basement that is about 8' below grade and the walls are brick and the floor is concrete. The house is about 50 years old. Water is seeping in through the floor and walls at a fairly slow rate.
I need a sealer that is safe to use inside and works on the negative pressure side. Can you recommend the best product you have for that ?
Unfortunately we do not offer a product for this issue. Typically this is a more involved process than a simple application of a sealant.
In a shower pan, can this product be used instead of using a shower pan liner?
HYDRO BAN is a thin, load bearing waterproofing/crack isolation membrane that DOES NOT require the use of fabric in the field, coves or corners. HYDRO BAN is a single component self curing liquid rubber polymer that forms a flexible, seamless waterproofing membrane. HYDRO BAN bonds directly to a wide variety of substrates.
What color is Laticrete Hydroban? Is there a difference in color between when the Hydroban is still wet or when it is cured?
Laticrete HydroBan when applied is a light sage color as it cures it turns into a olive green color.
Can this be sprayed on?
And is this something that would act as an appropriate sealant for a metal ceiling and girders in a damp basement area?
Yes, this can be sprayed on, however, there are certain steps you need to take to assure it works correctly. Please reference the manual here.
Though the Hydroban will bond to metals, we don't recommend it's use anywhere other than a tiled application.
What's the shelf life of Hydroban?
Factory sealed containers of this product are guaranteed to be of first quality for two (2) years* if stored at temperatures >32°F (0°C) and <110°F (43°C).
I need to waterproof some hardwood and Plywood floors before the installation of glue on carpet will this work?
If not do you have a product that will?
Hydroban will work over exterior glue plywood, but not over hardwood. Nothing is recommended over hardwood as it's too dimensionally unstable. Also, the carpet adhesive can't be solvent based.
I'm redoing a shower pan and was wondering if Hydro Ban will apply over the concrete base that has had a previous layer of tar over it. I've tried cleaning and sanding the tar (which has hardened) down to level as best as possible. Was wondering if Hydro Ban is compatible to be brushed over? Thank you!
It is not recommend to best used over that type of surface as there can be issues with bonding and getting tight seal. A liner type system might work best in this application.
Can it be used on flat roof around a/c unit
If this is going to be over an occupied space it is recommenced to use the laticrete Plaza and Deck system to ensure that this is done properly.
I have seen that this product should be applied over plywood when doing interior applications. However, would it be OK to apply this over plywood on an exterior balcony? And if not, why not? Thanks!
Not can not be done, over any type of wood exterior isn't approved per industry standards. You would first need to lay a substrate that is suitable for that application such as a exterior rated cement board. You can then waterproof over the cement board.

Excellent product! I used it over DuraRock, first took care of all seams and connection points then Hydro Ban two coats. Wonderful coverage would recommend this product and will absolutely use it again. I used in a shower stall, 40x40x80 1.5 gallons covered two coats with some to spare.
Great product and service
Quick delivery and product works perfectly well! Their customer service department was awesome and helped with all my questions.
Easy To Use
Works great and does exactly what is supposed to do. Much easier, faster and cheaper than using Kerdi I used Kerdi on bathremodels in the past and bought Hydroban to look for an alternative and I'm very happy with the results.

This Laticrete Hydroban stuff is incredible. I used 2 gallons to completely waterproof my shower surround up to the ceiling. The stuffl I tore out was leaking and caused major issues, so I wanted to make the new one water tight. The thing about a surface membrane like Hydro Ban is that any water that gets behind the tile is stopped before it gets into the cement board. This can be of benefit on a heavily-used shower that doesn't get a lot of time to dry out between uses. Strongly resists the musty smell that can occur when a shower is always wet.
I liked that the Hydroban bonded to the tub and plumbing flange. To waterproof the tub spout was so wasy and there is a continuous waterproof barrier all the way down the walls and onto the tub deck! Use the reinforcing fabric for the best possible results (IMO) in the corners, between cement board and tub, & around plumbing cutouts. Even though Laticrete says Hydro Ban can span gaps up to 1/8", it's cheap insurance against a future leak and really strengthens the waterproofing job.
Easy to Apply - good product
Haven't used the shower yet, just got done applying the 2nd coat of hydroban. It went on very easy with a brush and I'm confident it will do what its suppose to. I received the product in one day so delivery was amazing. I previously purchased the hydroban preformed shower pan which eliminated having to do a mud pan. I'm very happy with the laticrete products.
Very happy with the purchase

purchased via Amazon, the package arrived in a very good package, the can is wrapped up really well, Applied a couple of weeks ago for my shower, very easy to use and does what it claims, with this I can do a custom shape for my shower, not limited by the choice of shower pan anymore!
So easy to apply

Just finished applying the final coat of Hydro Ban. It seems like a great product and was very easy to apply. Ordered 2 gallons through Amazon and they both arrived really well packed and in perfect condition. I did find better coverage by brushing than by using a roller.
I would definitely recommend this product.
Best manufacturer on the market.
by Billy J
Laticrete has the best stuff on the market, this is the only product manufacturer I use for waterproofing. Easy to work with reasonable try time, ive been in the tile industry for over 15 yrs and Laticrete is my go to for just about everything.
laticrete is quality
I will be loyal to laticrete products forever. I've been installing for 32 yrs and they have never failed. we just have to find someone who cares about shipping these to us. the hydroban I received was thrown on my porch so hard, it broke the bottom of the plastic pail and I had a mess and a little loss of product.
This is the best product available for waterproofing Durock!
