Tile Leveling Systems – Clips, Wedges & Strap Systems for Lippage-Free Installs
Lippage is the enemy of a good tile job, that little edge-to-edge height difference that catches your eye and your foot both. This category is entirely built around preventing it, leveling systems that hold tile flat and even while the thinset cures underneath.
Tuscan's SeamClip system is one of the most established names out there, with wing straps for ungauged tile and both standard and ergonomic leveling guns depending on how much volume you're running. Perfect Level Master covers a wide clip and wedge range in multiple sizes, from 1mm up to 3mm gaps, which matters more than people expect since the right gap size depends on the tile and the look you're going for. Cortag's traditional kit is a solid all-in-one option, spacers, wedges, and pliers bundled together for anyone who doesn't already have a system. Raimondi and Rubi both make leveling tools too, alongside Alpha Tools, BIHUI, and Mapei covering different points in the lineup.
The bigger decision in this category isn't really brand, it's clip-and-wedge versus reusable strap systems. Clip-and-wedge is the traditional approach, plastic clips go under the tile, a wedge tensions them, and you snap off the exposed piece once the thinset sets. It's cheap, fast to learn, and disposable, which means you're buying more every job. Reusable strap systems, like LevTec and MLT, work differently, a strap and cap combination that gets removed and reused instead of snapped off and thrown away. The upfront cost is higher, but for a contractor running leveling systems on every job, the reusable strap pays for itself over time in a way disposable clips never do.
Gap size is worth getting right too. A 1/32" gap gives a tighter, more modern look, while a 1/16" or larger gap gives more room for natural variation in the tile and is more forgiving for a DIYer's first install.
