Laser Levels, Distance Measurers, and Tape Measures

A cross-line laser projects a fixed level and plumb line visible directly by eye, which covers most indoor layout work like hanging cabinets, aligning tile, or squaring a wall. Larger spaces and outdoor work often need a rotary laser instead, which spins to project a plane around an entire room or job site and pairs with a receiver to pick up the beam anywhere direct sightlines fall short or bright light washes it out.

Beam color matters more than it might seem. A green beam shows up far more clearly than a standard red beam in daylight or a well-lit room, which cuts down on the guesswork of trying to spot a faint line across a job site. Laser distance measurers solve a different problem entirely, replacing a tape measure for single-point distances with a beam instead of a physical tape, which speeds up measuring long runs or hard-to-reach spans.

Stabila supplies most of the laser levels, distance measurers, and tape measures on this page. Dewalt adds more cross-line and rotary laser options. BIHUI and Tajima cover additional laser levels and tape measures, and Better Tools, Cortag, Husqvarna, and Sola round out the remaining measuring tools.
