Question & Answers

Does the estimate of 50 Sq Ft include more than one coat?

The one gallon should give you 2 coats easily but this also depends on how thick it is applied. On Most applications users have a little left over.

How long will Hydroban keep once opened?

Once unsealed, use within 3-4 months exposure to air will begin to dry it out.

I have a basement that is about 8' below grade and the walls are brick and the floor is concrete. The house is about 50 years old. Water is seeping in through the floor and walls at a fairly slow rate. I need a sealer that is safe to use inside and works on the negative pressure side. Can you recommend the best product you have for that ?

Unfortunately we do not offer a product for this issue. Typically this is a more involved process than a simple application of a sealant.

In a shower pan, can this product be used instead of using a shower pan liner?

HYDRO BAN is a thin, load bearing waterproofing/crack isolation membrane that DOES NOT require the use of fabric in the field, coves or corners. HYDRO BAN is a single component self curing liquid rubber polymer that forms a flexible, seamless waterproofing membrane. HYDRO BAN bonds directly to a wide variety of substrates.

What color is Laticrete Hydroban? Is there a difference in color between when the Hydroban is still wet or when it is cured?

Laticrete HydroBan when applied is a light sage color as it cures it turns into a olive green color.

Can this be sprayed on? And is this something that would act as an appropriate sealant for a metal ceiling and girders in a damp basement area?

Yes, this can be sprayed on, however, there are certain steps you need to take to assure it works correctly. Please reference the manual here.

Though the Hydroban will bond to metals, we don't recommend it's use anywhere other than a tiled application.

What's the shelf life of Hydroban?

Factory sealed containers of this product are guaranteed to be of first quality for two (2) years* if stored at temperatures >32°F (0°C) and <110°F (43°C).

Easy to Apply - good product

Haven't used the shower yet, just got done applying the 2nd coat of hydroban. It went on very easy with a brush and I'm confident it will do what its suppose to. I received the product in one day so delivery was amazing. I previously purchased the hydroban preformed shower pan which eliminated having to do a mud pan. I'm very happy with the laticrete products.

Easy To Use

Works great and does exactly what is supposed to do. Much easier, faster and cheaper than using Kerdi I used Kerdi on bathremodels in the past and bought Hydroban to look for an alternative and I'm very happy with the results.

This Laticrete Hydroban stuff is incredible. I used 2 gallons to completely waterproof my shower surround up to the ceiling. The stuffl I tore out was leaking and caused major issues, so I wanted to make the new one water tight. The thing about a surface membrane like Hydro Ban is that any water that gets behind the tile is stopped before it gets into the cement board. This can be of benefit on a heavily-used shower that doesn't get a lot of time to dry out between uses. Strongly resists the musty smell that can occur when a shower is always wet.

I liked that the Hydroban bonded to the tub and plumbing flange. To waterproof the tub spout was so wasy and there is a continuous waterproof barrier all the way down the walls and onto the tub deck! Use the reinforcing fabric for the best possible results (IMO) in the corners, between cement board and tub, & around plumbing cutouts. Even though Laticrete says Hydro Ban can span gaps up to 1/8", it's cheap insurance against a future leak and really strengthens the waterproofing job.

Hydro Ban

Excellent product! I used it over DuraRock, first took care of all seams and connection points then Hydro Ban two coats. Wonderful coverage would recommend this product and will absolutely use it again. I used in a shower stall, 40x40x80 1.5 gallons covered two coats with some to spare.
